Margit in a Minute May 2010
We open up our FW ’11/12 color and fabric direction presentations with LA Colors from Amsterdam by Lousmijn van den Akker.
The presentation is scheduled for 10:00 AM on May 19, 2010 at Margit Publications/Doneger offices in New York City. Private presentations are suggested if you cannot make the May 19 date. RSVP is required; please contact Margit directly at 212-560-3643 or margit@mpnews.com to reserve.
The world is bouncing back to perform, to invent, to survive. Joining this renewed global energy means incorporating bright, highly technical fabrics and color direction. Cell structures and '60s graphics inspire the creation of Mad Mix prints and lacquered materials, using the color red to deliver the best of bright performances.
Voluminous and bulky materials, rich with fall color, lead us into Country Comfort, where the fabric inspirations come from the Welsh countryside; plaids, classic checks and Donegal tweeds.
We then take a tour of Ethnic Potpourri -- a global fusion of culture, taking a little bit of each and melding them with one another. The products illicit a Bohemian feel with handcrafted, chunky knits, crocheted jewelry, folk motifs and authentic designs.
In the Winter at Last story, millions of shades of delicate winter whites, fresh and cosmetic tones and the new warm and reassuring materials pamper us with a new sense of wellness.
Flickering lights in the city during winter inspire us to create micro patterns with a glint of metallics. Urban Retreat with its many shades of gray is accented with traffic light yellow and urban orange; asphalt gray and brown stone are tools of inspiration for those who want to be different and successful.
We are ready to move on. This is reflected in the enlightening whites and brightening of many colors. They are not sweet, but clean and useable. Not industry specific, the new colors represent an adaptable palette. There is a new sense of playfulness as we cautiously come out of a recession and look for a bright color experience. Optimistic vs. realistic represents the juxtaposition between the need for happy color in a downturned economy and the realistic desire to continue moving forward. A new heritage in color reflects a retro-nostalgia feel in a financial era that makes us yearn for yesteryear.
To see the visual interpretation of all the color and fabrics direction from our fashion experts don’t forget to sign up and attend the June 10 Margit Publications Color Symposium FW '11/12 season in New York City. RSVP at www.mpnews.com.
In your current season, enjoy the beauty of spring and the fast approaching summer season with all of its fun and wonder.
